About DoctorsAndMiracles.com

Doctors work in life-and-death situations every day. But what happens when they encounter something even they can't explain scientifically? That question is the foundation of everything we do here.
Our Story
DoctorsAndMiracles.com grew out of a single book and a simple observation: physicians carry stories they almost never share. Not stories of medical breakthroughs or surgical triumphs, but stories of the unexplained — moments that challenged everything they believed about science, consciousness, and what happens when we die.
Dr. Scott J. Kolbaba, a Mayo Clinic-trained internist practicing at Northwestern Medicine in Wheaton, Illinois, spent three years tracking down these stories. He interviewed over 200 physicians across specialties and geography, from rural family practitioners to specialists at major academic medical centers. The result was Physicians' Untold Stories, published by Career Press and now an Amazon bestseller with a 4.3-star rating and over 1,000 reviews.
This website extends that work. We created DoctorsAndMiracles.com to give these stories a permanent home, to connect them with the peer-reviewed research that provides scientific context, and to build tools that help physicians, patients, and caregivers reflect on their own experiences with the extraordinary side of medicine.
Our Mission
We exist to share the stories that medicine keeps quiet — the ghost encounters in hospital corridors, the near-death experiences that changed physicians forever, the miraculous recoveries that defied every prognosis, and the profound spiritual moments that reshape how doctors understand life and death. Our goal is not to convince anyone of anything. It is to present credible testimony from credible witnesses and let readers draw their own conclusions.
We believe that the tension between scientific rigor and unexplained experience is not a problem to solve but a territory worth exploring. The physicians in Dr. Kolbaba's book are not anti-science — they are deeply committed scientists who happened to witness something that science has not yet explained. Their willingness to share those experiences, despite professional risk, is an act of intellectual courage that deserves a platform.

Editorial Standards
Every story published on this site has been reviewed for internal consistency, factual plausibility, and alignment with documented phenomena in the medical literature. We do not fabricate stories, embellish details, or present fiction as fact. When we reference research, we cite the original peer-reviewed source. When we present physician accounts, we identify them by specialty and credential.
Our interactive tools are educational self-reflection instruments, not clinical diagnostic tools. They are informed by established assessment frameworks (including the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Greyson NDE Scale, and validated anxiety and depression screeners) but are not substitutes for professional evaluation. Every tool includes clear disclaimers and crisis resources.
What We Don't Claim
We do not claim to prove the existence of ghosts, the afterlife, or divine intervention. We do not offer medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment recommendations. We do not suggest that faith should replace evidence-based medicine, nor do we dismiss the possibility that some experiences currently classified as “unexplained” may eventually receive scientific explanations.
What we do claim is this: when over 200 physicians — trained observers whose professional lives depend on accurate reporting — independently describe similar phenomena that they cannot explain, those reports deserve to be heard, documented, and explored. That is the purpose of this site.
Who This Is For
Whether you're a physician carrying your own untold story, a patient seeking comfort and hope, a family member processing grief, a researcher investigating consciousness, or simply someone fascinated by the unexplained — this platform is for you. These stories remind us that there are forces beyond what medicine can measure, and that sometimes, the most powerful healing comes from the willingness to stay open to what we do not yet understand.
